Happy Halloween from all at Eden… In the spirit of the season, we’re sharing some of our most valuable tips (treats, if you will) that have served us well with journalists, to ensure that we’re always a ‘treat’ to work with and can always be relied upon for ‘frightfully’ good press releases.

  1. Make your emails interesting
    Journalists receive so many emails, it’s important to stand out from the crowd. How can you help do this? Start with an interesting (but not cheesy) subject line. Personalise the email from the start too, to ‘carve’ a connection with the journalist at the end of the email – it goes a long way.
     
  2. Be persistent
    There’s a reason it’s called ‘selling in’ – often stories need to be sold into the media, followed up on and journalists reminded – after all, they are busy people. This is also where angles are needed and knowing the kinds of stories your media and journalists are looking for… So, tailor your sell.
     
  3. Imagery is key
    High quality and a variety of photos are really important and can make the difference in a journalist choosing your story over another. When selling in and resharing content, using different images can help a story look new and fresh, which can also be helpful and give journalists even more options to choose from.
     
  4. Make sure your media contact lists are up to date
    Journalists may move on to other publications, start freelancing for others and there are always new contacts to be researched. Keeping your media contact lists up to date ensures that your press contact is relevant and appropriate to the journalists and publications you are targeting.
